The Best Gadgets for Water Damage
The Best Gadgets for Water Damage
As many property owners come to find, water damage is very deceiving. Proper water damage mitigation entails much more than just removing visible water. As our technicians know from experience, even the smallest leaks can cause the greatest damage behind the scenes. To be able to determine how far water traveled and how saturated materials are Dry Kings stocks a bevy of the latest gadgets to help our technicians not only be accurate but also be technologically advanced within our industry.
Within the restoration industry, there are several equipment options, but Dry Kings determined through in-field experience, the best equipment we could use other than dehumidifiers and fans are precise moisture meters and advanced camera technology. In the field, our technicians use either a Tramex Moisture Encounter or a Protimeter MMS2 to take moisture readings.
- Protimeter MMS2 is a wonderfully handy 4-in-1 device with the capability to take moisture readings either with a pin for minimal material damage or non-invasively with radio frequency, to take relative humidity readings with a built-in hygrometer, and to take surface temperature readings with a laser. Whether it's wood, drywall, concrete, masonry, and more the MMS2 can read it!
- Tramex Moisture Encounter is the easiest-to-read non-invasive moisture reader we have in our arsenal. Although it seems like a simple device, it can measure up to 1.25” deep into wood, drywall, masonry, and tile by converting the strength of a low frequency signal conducted by the moisture into a reading!
Along with these devices, our team also measures relative humidity in the unaffected and affected area. Our preferred device is the Extech Precision Hygro-Thermometer. With the Hygro-Thermometer our technicians will know to remove or add equipment because—to put it simply—if relative humidity is too high building materials will take longer to dry and if it is too low building materials could over-dry and become damaged.
Lastly, Dry Kings equips our technicians with advanced and accurate thermal cameras from Flir. During an inspection, our technicians use a thermal camera to reveal hidden water and to ascertain how far the water has traveled from the source by looking for temperature differences. Thermal cameras have been instrumental in helping Dry Kings quickly target the most saturated areas after a water loss and if an affected area is not drying as expected, to look for additional water intrusions.
At Dry Kings, we thoroughly believe in using the latest equipment—and methodology—to deliver accurate information and detailed work. We are committed to being early adopters to make working on your property as easy and quickly as possible!
