The Water Damage Restoration Process
The Water Damage Restoration Process
When something spills on the floor you naturally jump into action and find anything to soak it up, usually a towel. You toss that wet towel into the dirty laundry and do not give it another thought. But just days later, that foul, sour towel smell is pervading the air and now you can either throw out the towel or wash it and hope the smell goes away. Although it is on a larger scale, not professionally mitigating water damage can similarly cause more harm than the initial accident.
Just like that towel needed to be hung up to dry to avoid becoming smelly, water must be properly extracted and dried in affected areas to avoid further issues. It is a common misbelief that only visible water needs to be removed, but more importantly sub-surface areas such as carpet padding and insulation need to be treated. When sub-surface and other hard to reach areas are not tended to, they can become the optimal breeding grounds for mold, mildew, and other bacteria. Let’s take a closer look out our water damage mitigation process.
Our Step-by-Step Water Damage Restoration Process
To properly mitigate water damage, multiple tools and equipment need to be setup—powerful vacuums, air movers, and dehumidifiers just to name a few. Whether it is an emergency clean up or days after the accident, Dry Kings Restoration has the necessary equipment to start the water damage cleanup process immediately.
Step #1: Emergency Contact
The first step in the water restoration process is contacting our customer service team. Our representatives will ask you several questions about the type of damage you are experiencing and the condition of the building. Make sure to contact a plumber to get the source of the leak fixed before we start the water restoration process. Additionally, giving your insurance a call will help you to learn about your specific coverage.
Step #2: Damage and Inspection Assessment
The next step in the water damage restoration process is for our team to come to your property to assess the damage that has occurred in the structure. We will inspect the affected areas and start the clean-up once we get approval from the homeowner.
Step #3: Extraction and Removal
In order to minimize further damage that might occur to your structure, we will try to start the extraction as soon as possible. Our first goal is to remove all visible water and inspect the affected area for surface and sub-surface damage. With our powerful vacuum systems, we are able to remove the excess water quickly. Our team will also remove wet building materials like soaked drywall and unsalvageable contents. And if the water is contaminated, we also clean and sanitize the affected area to stop further microbial bacteria growth.
Step #4: Dehumidification and Drying
Once the visible water is removed, our team will begin the drying. Our meters determine what is wet and how wet it is and help us design the best drying environment. Given the size of the affected area we setup the optimal number of air movers, dehumidifiers and other equipment and constantly track moisture and humidity levels. Dryers, as well as industrial strength dehumidifiers will eliminate moisture from hard-to-reach areas. If necessary, we will open up walls and take out wet insolation to prevent mold growth inside of the walls.

Step #5: Content Restoration
When you experience a flood, furniture, personal items, clothing, and other belongings can be impacted by the water. We help you to restore your valuable contents and try to salvage all of your important items.
Step #6: Rebuild
Unlike other restoration companies, we not only extract water and dry out the affected space, but we also make sure you get your property built back to its pre-loss condition. Repairs may range from minor jobs such as new drywall and a paint job or extensive repairs such as the rebuilding of an entire kitchen or bathroom. The Dry Kings team are general contractors and are able to help you with any kind of rebuilds that might be necessary!
